That is not to say that humans as a species are not noteworthy: quite the contrary, we have a very interesting combination of characteristics. Humans have the natural (and completely understandable) tendency towards actions that have been deemed by people themselves to be less than admirable. However, by deeming these actions sinful it becomes easier for people to avoid them. So people do posses qualities that are not admirable, but they have developed the ability to rise above them, and that makes them noteworthy creatures.
Even with these qualities it is a strange noton to believe that an omnipotent being would monitor our behaviors. Perhaps he has nothing better to do?
These speculations are based on the assuption that a god exists. However, what proof do we have that a god does exist? Even if there is no god, it is not a plausable thought to believe we are the supreme beings in the universe.
As I have stated previously, people have the natural tendency towards actions that are undesirable. So what could prompt an entire species to rise above these tendencies that seem to be more natural than the desired actions?
While there are other answers, I tie this one back to the belief of a god. If you believe in a god whom is constantly watching over you and judging your fate and worth by your actions, you will be prompted by this belief to act as your god would like you to act. Especially if you were taught to believe this way as a child, you would be more wiling to do good as a person and shun actions and thoughts that would condemn you in the eyes of your superior, your god. This is, I believe, the entire basis of the Christian religion: convince the species to digress from the undesirable actions and instill upon them the want and need to perform more desirable actions. Of course, they also offer a reward for your good actions; this is the thing people strive to attain through there good actions.
While this basis is justifiable, there is no way to prove the existence of the Christian or any god, or His desire to act as the judge of the human race. Thus, the religion must be purely faith based, which may in fact help with the desire abandon less desirable actions. And even though this is a justifiable basis and belief, this specific belief is not the only good way to overcome the natural tendencies of human beings.
